Evaluation and Treatment for Psychiatric Disorders
As a nationally board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), my approach to psychiatric care emphasizes the whole person, their environment, and the unique strengths of the individual. I offer treatment for mental health conditions using an integrative approach that includes medication and psychotherapy for individuals 20 years and older. My goal is to help you customize a plan that promotes your healthiest potential.
Services
Diagnostic Evaluation and Treatment Goals
The first step in determining treatment is a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation. This process includes but is not limited to structured and unstructured psychiatric interviews with you, medical assessments, and a review of medical records from past and present providers. If clinically indicated, I will refer you to other specialists for additional diagnostic testing.
Using this information as a foundation, we will create a care plan that includes goals for your treatment.
Medication Management
Mental health medications can significantly reduce symptoms and promote recovery. For this to occur, it’s important that you feel confident you are making informed decisions about your mental health care. At your appointments, we will discuss psychotherapeutics and their role in psychiatric care. We will also discuss alternatives that include naturopathics, nutrition, lifestyle and other medication-free treatment. After starting a new medication or during times of dose adjustment, we will meet more frequently to monitor your progress. Follow-up appointments for ongoing medication treatment occur at least every 12 weeks.
Therapy, or a combination of therapy plus medication, enhances interpersonal functioning, quality of life and promotes well-being.
I have experience in both psychotherapy and medication management, and while I focus mostly on individualized medication management, I also apply psychotherapy techniques to support your treatment goals.
My style is active, collaborative, and compassionate.
